-
The
electric anchor winch and electric fridge should only be operated
when the engine is running. This is to prevent an excessive
discharge of the batteries.
-
Whenever you leave the boat turn the main battery switch to OFF
position.
-
Before
starting the engine check the gear lever to be in neutral
position. (usually vertical)
-
Yanmar
and Perkins engines are right turning, while Volvo engines turn
left. Ford engines can be either right or left turning.
-
Hoist
the main sail only with the bow turned against the wind and hold
this position until the sail is fully up. Make sure you have
loosened the boomvang and reefing lines before. When the sail is
fully up and tied loosen the balancine slightly.
-
The
first
and last sail to be taken up and down is the main sail.
-
Never
tow the dinghy from the stem while you are cruising. It is not only
forbidden by the port police, but the insurance will not cover a
loss or damage and you loose speed! If you stow the dinghy inflated
on deck make sure it is not in the way of ropes which may cause
damage. You should always tie it down securely.
-
When
you are cruising make sure all hatches and portholes are closed so
that no water does I enter the boat.
-
If
there is no water remaining in any tank close the water pressure
switch on the control panel Otherwise you will damage the fresh
water pump. If there are two tanks, connect the full tank and close
the empty one. Turn on a tap until water flows to allow for the air
in the system to escape.
-
Never
drop paper or any other objects in the toilets.
-
Do not
make any modifications to the boat, engine or equipment without
reason or purpose.
-
Use
only a pencil to draw courses or write notes on a chart.
-
When
you heave up anchor take care that the anchor winch is not pulling
the boat, but you move the boat slowly under engine towards the
direction where the anchor is placed.
This way you don't risk overworking the anchor
system.
-
Always
wear suitable shoes on deck and gloves when you work with the anchor
to protect yourself from being hurt.
-
Before
getting prepared to anchor in port ensure that the water is deep
enough so the rudder
hit the ground with swell caused by the ferry boats
arriving or leaving the harbour.
-
In case
of an accident, theft or damage, the charterer must immediately
inform the charter office, who will in turn inform the insurance
company and / or owner. In case of theft you also must make a
written report at the local port police where the theft occurred.
-
In case
of immediate necessity of salvage or towage you must consider the
following: always take all measures possible to avoid towage by any
vessel. In case it should become unavoidable please contact us
through Hellas Radio (Channel 16). If you cannot reach us negotiate
the price to be paid in writing with the other captain of the vessel
before accepting towage. If you are requested to fill out any forms
please contact the office before signing.
-
There
are very few laid mooring in Greece so most times you will have to
use the anchor. Use your Greek Water Pilot to guide you to the
safest mooring dock within your chosen harbour. Be aware of the
nature of the sea bed when anchoring and because in some ports the
traffic is high and dense take care not to anchor on top of other
ones and remember not every one will be as considerate as you.
-
If you
have children on board, let them sit outside but always in the
cockpit wearing a life vest.
-
When
you moor in a port, always have a fender between your yacht and the
quay, so even if your anchor for any reason is unable to keep you
in position, the yacht will not touch the quay. Take care of the
swell that big ferries cause and avoid mooring the yacht close to
the place these boats anchor.
-
While
refilling either water or fuel tanks, make sure not to mix fuel with
water or water with fuel. In both cases the situation becomes
unpleasant and difficult to be repaired.
-
Keep
always an eye on the hour counter of your motor and make sure that
you have sufficient amount of fuel in your tank. The fuel gauge is
not always reliable, so check the hours that you have used the
motor.
-
According to the clause 4.i of your contract, two days prior to the
termination of the charter the Yacht's port of call shall lie at a
distance not greater than forty (40) NM from the point at which the
Yacht is to be returned to the Owner. Please note that a delayed
arrival will affect the next charterers holidays.
-
You are
kindly requested not to throw plastic bottles, cans or any other
waste in the sea. Keep them on board and remove immediately at the
first harbour.
